Thanks to the patrons and proprietors of the Pukeko Cafe in Kiwi Valley who let the Juice go loose today. Inclement weather threatened, but the weather gods smiled for the afternoon and our gear remained dry. The highlight was certainly the peacock who let his appreciation of one of the Hammond solos… Wish we’d caught that on video. A little surreal but a beautiful spot (and nice coffee too if you get out that way). Anyway a couple of pics added to the gallery in case you missed it.

Merry Christmas at the Auckland Blues Club

It heated up at the Auckland Blues Club Christmas party for a rainy December afternoon in Ponsonby… Maybe it was the thermal dynamics on the stage at the Crib or maybe it was the sheer heat being pumped out of the amplifiers.. the guitars were wailing and the Hammond was growling and it was a blast. JOTL was billed for set 2 among some fantastic bands that were a pleasure to listen to: the William Brown Band, the Stingrays and the Flaming Mudcats. Some great blues players on the stage and in the crowd. The party was also a charity drive for the Auckland City Mission, with members donating food and toys for underprivileged families. A great cause. Merry Christmas!

Top evening at the Dairy Flat community hall – JOTL opened the night with a sprightly half hour set to a hall filling by the minute. After that we sat back and watched Black Dog warm up the crowd a little more before the Juice got up to play a few more numbers with the jammers, including a sax player… The NZ Blues Brothers show featured Tony Beard on bass! The Juice were On The Loose again yesterday evening in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Carrington’s Cafe, belting out a triad of numbers at the Auckland Blues Club jam. Sighted amongst the great and the good of Auckland’s blues fraternity were members of the Gunsmiths, the Flaming Mudcats and Tony Beard, last seen playing with Human Instinct. The monthly jam was unusually held this month in the sparkling confines of Carrington’s. Some good younger players took the stage earlier in the evening too. JOTL thanks the Auckland Blues Club for the opportunity to play.
